I am a certified Circular Economist
In 2012, I wrote my master’s thesis in fashion communication design on refusing, reusing, repurposing, redistributing, and recycling – concepts that formally fall under the circular economy. Professionally, I have also worked largely on waste management topics as part of various circularity initiatives. However, describing these concepts simply as “circular economy” never felt quite right.
That is why, in autumn 2025, I joined Vojtech Vosecky’s The Circular Economist Masterclass, co-organized with Circle Economy.
The masterclass broadened my perspective on how the circular economy has the potential to transform our economic model and how to best communicate value to make the various concepts more attractive to business.
Spoiler alert: it’s not by focusing on the “Re-“ concepts of circularity.
The circular economy is not “just” an environmental strategy. It has always been about:
1. Cost savings
2. Revenue growth
3. Customer loyalty
4. Talent attraction
5. Competitive advantage
6. Resilience and risk management
While the well-known “re-” concepts focus on the familiar goals of municipalities and citizens – saving money and resources – it’s the “de-” concepts such as de-linking, de-alloying, and de-constructing that carry significant economic value.
I am looking forward to diving deeper into the methodologies and applying the tools introduced during the course, from the Value Hill to the Circular Business Model Canvas.
