Is this the end of open space offices?

I still remember one of my first jobs at an architecture office: a large, open space with a wooden floor, no curtain, half of the team on the phone.

There, I was tasked with making models in a small, cupboard-sized room. So far so good, but wouldn’t one of the architects step in every 5 minutes to take a call. They simply had nowhere else to go.

You’d assume architects would have things figured out – well, they didn’t, and now all I remember from my time there was how loud open office spaces are. How much everyone lacks privacy.

With COVID-19, I assume this style of office space now lies in the past, which is also the topic of the interview I was asked to give to Karriere.at, Austria’s biggest career platform.

If you speak German, you can read it here. If not, here’s an article where I talk about alternative office space models.
